I’ve always considered myself a landscape and northern light photographer until back in 2016 a work accident left me with two torn shoulders loosing the ability to hike to the only places I thought held the most magic and wonder.  Little did I know how wrong about this I was. My previously held belief was that epic spots came from epic places.  Yosemite Valley and half dome In the distance! Not a flower growing in my garden. Macro photography came into my life when I needed it most! It has become the best daily reminder that daily life can be so magical! 

 

Embrace the weird feeling as your brain struggles to understand the image your gaze is locked on. Almost as though it’s  asking, this is a flower right? Then why does it appear to hold a galaxy in the petals? Or these not quit so normal landscapes, appearing more similar to distant Martian landscapes. Then how was the scene captured and where? The answer is, from small pieces of rocks and minerals collected on past adventures! Also, with flowers from the garden! Now let your mind readjust, take a second look, what you see now, are the hidden worlds in objects sometimes no bigger than half an inch. Other times, large six inches by three inch scenes in complete detail! These details are the secret sauce for the mind to play, create, and all while basking in the wonder! 

 

The joy of these experiences, allow us to walk away feeling different maybe a touch  light hearted. Go ahead, lean into the brain and body’s recent experience!  Who knows what will be discovered in the rest of the day! Be the first to conquer a rock summit in your own yard! Jump into a flower galaxy in your own garden when you get home, or wait, do I see a flying car or submersible with that Normal poppy? Oh yes I do! Off to capture another Norma poppy in the action!
